Octolamp
Went to Github Universe 2025 at San Franscisco last week, it was interesting, I felt old.
I saw they were selling Octolamp kits and of course I thought "Why buy that when I can spend twice as much and several days putting it together!", or something like that. Turns out the parts were less than $15 on Amazon.
- I purchased the ESP8266 (WLED module) and the WS2812B LED strip on Amazon.
- I cloned the GitHub Repo and printed the STLs on my Adventurer 5m.
- I tried to get the WLED site to work, no-go would not connect, I presumed it was permissions with trying to hit the
ttyUSB0port on my Manjaro box so I downloaded the latest release of WLED bin from here and then I used these commands
yay -S esptool
sudo esptool --port /dev/ttyUSB0 erase_flash
sudo esptool --port /dev/ttyUSB0 write_flash 0x0 ~/Downloads/WLED_0.15.1_ESP01.bin
- From there was able to connect to the WLED-AP WIFI network and from there setup my WIFI router, rebooted the WLED and bamn! was able to load it using the DHCP assigned IP in the browser
Here is my Octolamp in "Washer Machine" mode:
